Eastern Province leads in reported crime cases

RWAMAGANA — The Minister of Internal Security, Moussa Fazil Harerimana has revealed that Eastern province is the leading province in reported cases of crime.

Harerimana was speaking during a provincial security meeting held on Monday 30th march  at Avega Agahozo offices in Rwamagana district, Eastern Province.

The meeting which was attended by senior  security officials was called to collectively review the state of security in the province. Within the national rankings the province is closely followed by the city of  Kigali.

He asked the  representatives of community policing from all sectors in the province to put in more effort in their work for the purposes of ensuring security of people and their property.

He further asked them to collaborate with the leadership to fight drunkenness which is a  major cause of the committed crimes.

He added that murder is among the reported  crimes in the province. He revealed that the some of the crime incidences  are attributed to family conflicts which include polygamy as well as drug abuse.

The Governor of the Eastern Province, Ephraim Kabayija revealed  that  incidences topping the crimes list was also attributed to domestic violence, theft and armed robbery.

On her part the Acting Commissioner General of the Rwanda National Police, Mary Gahonzire asked security organs at sector level to work with the police under community policing in exchanging information concerning security.
