GICUMBI — Over twenty Red Cross Rwanda volunteers from seven sectors on Sunday concluded a one week training on First Aid which was conducted at Gisuna Cell of Byumba Sector in Gicumbi district.
The training which was aimed at providing First Aid to accident and trauma victims attracted volunteers from Kaniga, Shangasha, Rukomo, Giti, Mutete, Miyove and Shangasha Sectors.
Addressing participants, the coordinator of Red Cross Rwanda in the Northern Province Eugene Karangwa called on the volunteers to pass on the knowledge acquired to residents in their respective sectors.
"First Aid is very important at this time when the entire country is approaching genocide commemoration period, with a likelihood that some people are bound to suffer from trauma”, said Karangwa. He further said Red Cross Rwanda volunteers are committed to providing First Aid services to all Rwandans at different levels.
The officer in-charge of First Aid training Stanislas Niyonsaba said Red Cross First Aid volunteers are trained in groups, with each having a group leader.
"During an accident, volunteers use readily available materials at their disposal to make effective means of providing solutions”, said Niyonsaba.
Each of the First Aid Red Cross volunteers was awarded a testimonial document for having completed training, while waiting for the official certificate in First Aid signed by the Director General of Red Cross Rwanda.
