The Mac-Out-Party crowned the end of March.  Courtesy of the newly established K-Club, the night was dedicated to all the Senior Six graduates as they embarked on the new journey as campus students. The party was also a celebration of women, especially because the International Women’s Day (IWD) is observed on the 8th of march.

Daring and courageous women and youth from all walks of life ‘let their hair down’ and partied till dawn at the recently established- club.

The night was a blaze, and yes, it was indeed a ‘Mac-Out-Party’ for the lucky ones. Right from the door, special treatment was accorded them. The other revellers were subjected to the usual entry fee of Rwf5000.

Free entrance was granted to the first 50 smartly dressed ladies. And this was not all; complementary shots of tequila awaited them as they were ushered in, and the ‘comp’ drinks kept flowing.

There was as wide a range of music. From the oldies, R&B, hip hop, salsa, Afro reggae, Afro blues and dancehall. The night was organised by the Club’s proprietor Michael Kabutura.

It was aimed at welcoming former senior six students into campus. It was also dedicated to all Rwandan women who have contributed to the country’s development. Today, the issue of gender equality in Rwanda is given priority. No wonder even night clubs have embraced the idea.

"One can succeed in life through all sorts of jobs, provided it’s clean and clear,” Kabutura says, adding that "people need to be creative and patriotic to contribute to the country’s development.”

Location

K-Club derives the name from its proprietor Michael Kabutura, and it’s situated in Kacyiru, one of Kigali’s upscale residential areas.

In an interview with The New Times, Kabutura said that he chose the alphabet letter for easy advertisement, and of course to attribute to his name ‘Kabutura’.”

"Our main aim was to change people’s mind set, to stop thinking that the calibres of lawyers, doctors and the likes are the only ones who can succeed in life,” said

Ambience

The ambience was enhanced by the riveting sounds of the best music over the ages. The city’s hottest DJs were there to embrace the night, and the ringleader, DJ Bissosso did not disappoint, as they kept the revellers on their feet throughout the night.

The night was associated with excitement, hot music selections, floods of drinks, and bites were served to your choice. The dress code was hot but decent.

Noise and inconveniences

Kabutura acknowledged that the noise may cause some inconveniences to the residents of Kacyiru.  He however assured the residents that they would try their best not to antagonise the peace.

The disco, for example, has been constructed in the basement, to mask of the noise.  It has also been amply padded with soundproof fittings. In the bar and restaurant, extreme caution is taken to ensure that the environs are not disturbed.

Target market

Kabutura said that starting a night club in Kigali has been a long-term dream, and that he had targeted an area that would attract corporate clientele as well as regular club goers.
