Croaking frogs

A frog is a small, tailless animal with bulging eyes. They may vary in colour or size but most frogs are green or brown while some have colourful markings.

Frogs belong to a group of cold-blooded animals called amphibians. This means that their inside body temperatures are about the same as the temperature outside. 

Their skin absorbs water into their body. They do not have to drink water in order to survive.  Some frogs never go into the water because they live mainly on land.

Some frogs that live in trees have tiny, sticky pads on their fingers and toes to help them cling to the trees they climb. One old myth says that frogs fall from the sky when it rains because they are common during the rainy seasons.

Most frogs have a sticky tongue in the mouth used to capture prey. Frogs eat other animals like bugs and worms. They help people because they eat so many unwanted pests. Very little is known about the natural lifespan of frogs because its hard to track them for their whole life.

When captured, many species of frogs can live for a surprisingly long period of time between four and 15 years. The longest lifespan known was of a European Common Toad which lived for 40 years.
