By press time last evening, 13 clubs were shaping up for the 24th Africa Club Women’s volleyball Championship at Nairobi’s sports complex Kasarani.
APR is Rwanda’s representative at the one-week event which tips off today. Top clubs from Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Cameroon, Tanzania, Uganda and hosts Kenya among others are also in contention.
APR, who are first timers at the championship are chasing for a semi-final berth in the championship which also double as the World Club Championship qualifiers.
The first timers hope to achieve their goal under their new coach Paul Bitok. The former Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) tactician was lured to the army side early this year in a bid to bring silverware to the club.
"I know this championship well and I’m confident that in the next three years, we should be able to lift the title. For now though, we want to try and get to the semi-finals,” Bitok who guided KCB to the 2006 title told Times Sport shortly before the team’s departure on Saturday.
Kenya Prisons are the defending champions.
