Rwanda’s national rally champion Davite Giancarlo is strongly relishing his chances of walking away with the ultimate prize at the inaugural KCB East African challenge series, which rolls off this weekend with the KCB Safari rally.

The KCB Safari rally is slated for April 3-5 and Giancarlo, who will be navigated by Sylvia Vindevogel in a Subaru Impreza, told Times Sport that the new competition had charmed up several drivers.

"It’s a very interesting competition with several top drivers. The challenge will wind up in Rwanda so if the race is still open by that time, then we shall have a spectacular finish- trust me,” he said.

The KCB E. Africa Challenge involves three events; KCB Safari rally, KCB Pearl of Africa rally and the recently incorporated KCB Mountain Gorilla rally.

According to the competition rules, only drivers who take part in all the three races will be considered for the ultimate prize courtesy of Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), the title sponsors.

Meanwhile, it remains to be seen if the KCB Mountain Gorilla rally will find its way back on the ARC charts this year.

The rally, which was scrapped off the ARC at the end of 2007, was only drafted onto the 2009 ARC calendar as a reserve event.

"We have written to ARC and are waiting for their response,” the Italian-born driver further said.
