The Amavubi team players missed getting $3000 (approx. Frw1.6 million) each after a goalless draw against Algeria in the 2010 World/Africa Nations Cup qualifier played on Saturday at Amahoro stadium.

According to the country’s football body, Ferwafa, each member on Amavubi team would have pocket $3000 if they had won.

Ferwafa Chief Executive Officer Jules Kalisa told Times Sport that the money was staked as part of their usual routine of rewarding the players with extra bonus for every win in international matches.

"Each player was supposed to get that money as part of their thank-you bonus for their efforts if they had won the game,” Kalisa said.

However, after a goalless draw against the Fennecs, the Amavubi Stars who played outstandingly were reportedly to have been given some token of appreciation.

The winning bonus has been raised from $1500 in the first round of this qualifying campaign to $3000 in the third round.

However, Kalisa could not confirm whether this extra cash incentive will be sustained throughout the six-game qualifying campaign, which ends in November, with the overall Group winners booking their flight to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

The Wasps, who have yet to qualify for the global showpiece, were hoping to take an early advantage in what is a very tough group.

However, the Algerians, who were favorites for the encounter held on for a vital away point.
