Lotto Rwanda is planning strategies of steering Rwanda’s football to another level starting next year.
The Lotto Rwanda Director General, Philippe Brizoua said over the weekend that though the company initiated the annual championship (Lotto Cup) , the company is planning to start sponsoring various national teams as well as local clubs.
"We are focused on helping people full fill their dreams through working with the community,”
"Whether male or female teams from all age categories shall be sponsored with a purpose of elevating the development of the sport in the country,”
"The annual Lotto championship is a way of bringing together the top teams a unit in revealing the role and vision of Lotto Company in the country,” Brizoua said.
The Ivorian further added that both youth teams and women teams will be their pioneer beneficiaries of the scheme.
Lotto Rwanda injected Frw. 12 million in this year’s Intercup championship which drew the top four teams participating in a two-day event which climaxed over the weekend at Amahoro stadium.
In the knockout stage of the championship, Rayon Sport defeated Mukura 3-0 to advance to the finals where they battled with the military side which had defeated Atraco on 5-4 spot kicks after a goalless draw.
Rayon Sport’s Jimmy Mwiseneza was the first to score on the first minute of the game after a defensive blunder but the military side pushed on for a challenge and new signing Djabir Mutarambirwa netted the equalizer for the military side on the 65th minute of the game.
Both teams had to push on for the spot kicks after a one-all draw by full time.
APR claimed this year’s championship after a 10-9 spot kick victory over rivals Rayon Sport.
With three championship trophies namely, Kagame/Cecafa Cup, 2006 Christmas Cup, Amahoro Cup and the Primus league trophy, APR added this year’s Lotto Intercup trophy to their medal bag.
Meanwhile the military side was handed the 2006/07 Primus league trophy on Sunday at Amahoro stadium.
