Today, it’s not common to find people wearing suits on their introduction day. A number of people have grasped the culture of going traditional.

It is also another hectic thing planning for an introduction. The bride to be should decide in advance whether to go traditional or modern as far as attire is concerned.

Ruth Mugabo, newly married, told the SundayMag that she opted for traditional outfits and decorations.

"If one decides to go for a beautiful traditional introduction wear, she needs to be sure of the pocket. Traditional wear is costly as everyone dresses according to their role,” says Mugabo.

The bride’s attire is different from the rest of the girls’ or ladies. It is normally unique and expensive. In Rwanda, the other ladies wear what is locally known as Umushanana.

An introduction that is decorated or purely designed using traditional tools looks fabulous, attractive and unique. It does not only bring out the beauty of the nature and culture but it is respectful and gentle.

Taking Rwanda’s traditional introduction, every thing that is used while decorating the tent or the environment, is from nature. Things like banana fibers, mats, traditional tools, chairs are used to creatively decorate the place.

Unlike wearing a suit, traditional attire (Umushanana) needs someone who knows how to properly wear it; this helps the bride and the maids to feel comfortable and smart.

If the bride wears her traditional wear (Umushanana), the groom and the groomsmen are also expected to wear the men’s traditional attire.

The only thing that differentiates the bridegroom from the groomsmen is the crown he wears placed on his head by his bride.

Whatever you might opt to wear for your introduction, just make sure you do it on time and ensure all is set to avoid any embarrassment!
