The Embassy of Rwanda in Angola celebrated the 30th anniversary of Rwanda's Liberation Day under the theme "Rwanda's Journey Continues” in a special event held at the Embassy premises and attracted more than 400 people in the capital, Luanda, a related statement says.

As noted, the celebration held on July 11 marked the significant milestones in Rwanda&039;s history and highlighted the progress made in the journey towards a united, peaceful and prosperous nation. July 4 has an important meaning for the people of Rwanda. On that date in 1994, Rwandans were freed from the genocidal regime.
Amb Dr. Charles Rudakubana, Rwanda’s envoy to Angola, noted, in his speech that Liberation Day has a deep meaning in the hearts of Rwandans, as it symbolizes the triumph over bad governance and the end of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.
In July 1994, the Rwandan Patriotic Front, led by incumbent President Paul Kagame, who is campaigning for re-election in this month’s general elections, put an end to the genocide and overthrew the regime responsible for the atrocities committed against the Rwandan people.

The Ambassador paid tribute to the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for Rwanda's freedom and honoured its memory.
He emphasized the importance of Rwanda's liberation and the values it represents, stating that Kagame’s leadership has been instrumental in driving Rwanda's transformation.
The Ambassador also expressed his gratitude for Angola's mediation and conflict resolution efforts in the Great Lakes Region and recognized the shared values between the two countries.

At the celebrations, the government of Angola was represented by top officials including Americo Cuononoca, the Vice President of the National Assembly, Marco de Jesus Lopes, the Minister of Tourism, Domingos Custódio Vieira Lopes, the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Gen Alfredo Tyaunda, the Counselor to the Minister of the State and Chief of Staff, Patricio do Rosario da Silva, the Director of the Placement Office (Ministry of Finance), Daneil Joao Jorge, the Director of the Legal and Exchange Office (Ministry of Culture), and General Commissioner Arnaldo Manuel Carlos, the Commander General of the Angola National Police.
