KIGALI - A Cabinet meeting on Wednesday accepted the resignation of John Milenge who has been the Director General of the country’s Energy and Water utility, Electrogaz.

Sitting at Urugwiro Village, the Cabinet meeting commended Milenge for a job well done which had made the company profitable.

Milenge resigned "on personal grounds” and the Cabinet appointed Yves Muyange as the interim Director General.

Speaking to The New Times yesterday, Milenge said he resigned because he wanted to set up a personal business.

"It has been wonderful working with Electrogaz though there have been numerous challenges to deal with the time I have spent there,” he said over the phone.

Formerly the Chief Operations Officer of MTN Rwandacell, Mirenge has been at the helm of Electrogaz for the last three and a half years. He however refused to disclose when his resignation was tendered in.

The now aspiring entrepreneur assured this paper that there was nothing suspect behind the decision to resign saying that his reasons were purely personal. Meanwhile, the above Cabinet meeting also sacked two prosecutors from their posts.

Nadia Gahunga and Jeremie Kimenyi Ndahindurwa were shown the door for grave faults and absconding from duty respectively.

According to the Deputy Prosecutor General, Alphonse Hitiyaremye, Nadia Gahunga was sacked over breach of professional secrecy.

Hitiyaremye said Gahunga who was working in Nyamagabe, Southern Province, was also implicated in corruption related charges.

He said that Ndahindurwa was fired because he absconded from duty after leaving for training in South Africa. His whereabouts remain known.

Other appointments by the meeting included that of Paul Jabo as the Executive Secretary in Western Province, Aqueline Niwemfura as the Executive Secretary of the Gender Monitoring Office, while Alain Maniraguha was appointed Board Chairman of Prime Holdings.
