APR’s women volleyball club jets out of the country this afternoon for the 24th Africa Club Women’s Championship in Nairobi.
The 16-man contingent comprising 12 players and four officials leaves aboard a Rwandair flight at 2pm.
Speaking ahead of the team’s departure, APR’s new coach Paul Bitok said that the team was targeting to get to the semi-finals.
"Being our debut appearance at the championship, we are focusing on getting to the semi-final,” Bitok noted.
After luring KCB’s top players Dorcas Ndasaba and Susan Atemba to APR, Bitok has every reason to believe his team can hit their target.
"Ndasaba and Atemba have been regulars in this competition so the experience that they bring to the team is immense and we hope to benefit from that,” the Kenyan coach noted.
APR will be Rwanda’s only representatives at the championship after financial constraints forced a last minute withdrawal by Rwanda National University (UNR).
Rwanda Defense Forces (RDF) and Soras, one of Rwanda’s top insurance companies, have boosted APR’s participation in the event.
