Covid-19: Rwanda records 363 new infections as upsurge continues

Rwanda on Thursday, January 28 recorded 363 new cases of Covid-19 as the upsurge in daily infections continues. The new infections were detected from 5,024 samples that were carried out on the day. The ministry of health has recently increased the number of tests carried out daily - specifically in the city of Kigali where the screening exercise has been taken to grass root levels, since Saturday last week. Thursday's new cases were recorded in 24 districts of the country and Kigali. Just like it has been over the past couple of months, Kigali had the highest number of infections on the day - with 98.  It was followed by Gatsibo with 52, Kayonza with 51, Gicumbi with 21, Kirehe with 17, Ngoma with 15, and Rubavu with 15 too. Gakenke had 12, Rulindo had 11, Rwamagana had 8, Kamonyi had 8, Nyamagabe had 8, Gisagara had 6, Nyagatare had 5, Ruhango had 5, and Muhanga had 4. The other infections were registered in Nyamasheke which had 4, Musanze with 4, Rusizi with 4, Burera with 4, Huye with 3, Nyanza with 3, Nyaruguru with 2, Karongi with 2, and Ngororero with 1. The total number of confirmed cases in the country is now 14,529. Of these,  9,234 have recovered. The active cases are currently 5,109. The total number of Covid-19 related deaths in the country is 186. On Thursday, Rwanda recorded 2 new deaths related to Covid.
