The outgoing President of the United States, Donald Trump has wished good luck to the new administration led by the to be sworn-in President Joe Biden.

"I wish the new administration great luck and great success. I think they’ll have great success, they have the foundation to do something really spectacular,” he said in his final speech at Andrews Air Force Base on Wednesday, January 20, as he left the White House.

He also thanked his supporters and promised that the movement that swept him to power four years ago was just getting started, and promised to come back soon.

"We love you. We will be back in some form. Have a good life, we will see you soon,” he said.

He painted the adversities he has faced over the past four years as ones endured for the good of the American people.

After his brief farewell, President Trump and First Lady Melania travelled south to Florida, where Trump will be staying at his Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach.

Air Force One is then expected to return to Maryland where it will be at the disposal of incoming President Joe Biden.

President-elect Joe Biden and Dr Jill Biden are currently attending a service at the Cathedral of St Matthew the Apostle in Washington DC.

It is expected that before 17:00 GMT, Joe Biden is to be sworn in as the 46th US president in Washington.

The Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris will take the oath of office alongside him - the first woman to hold that position.

Meanwhile, some 25,000 troops will guard the inauguration ceremony after a deadly riot at the Capitol earlier this month.

As he had announced before the ban on his Twitter account, Trump will not attend his successor's inauguration - the fourth president not to do so in the history of the United States.
