IT will be a tough test for striker Abeddy Biramahire when he faces his former club, Sportif Sfaxien in the final qualification round of the Total CAF confederations Cup.
The City of Kigali will play the first match away from home on February 14 while the second leg will take place 2 weeks later in Kigali.
"I don’t think it will be an emotional match for me because I played for them for two years but it will certainly be a very tough task for us. Sfaxien is one of the best teams on the continent having dominated this competition three times. But we won’t concentrate on that too much. Our goal is to get a good result in Tunisia and finish the job in Kigali,” Biramahire said
Tunisia topflight football league side Club Sportif Sfaxien signed former Police FC and Isonga striker Biramahire in 2018 on a three-year contract but released him with a year on his contract.
"We have a good solid side, and we have what it takes to compete at the top level as we have demonstrated against the teams we have played so far,” the former Police forward added.
AS Kigali have been training at Kigali Stadium without players like Eric Nsabimana, Eric Bakame Ndayishimiye, Emery Bayisenge, Rachid Kalisa and Muhadjiri Hakizimana who are with the national team that is currently engaged in the CHAN tourney in Cameroon.
The last time AS Kigali got in the qualification round was in 2014 when they were eliminated by Difaâ Hassani El Jadidi of Morocco.
AS Kigali progressed to the final round of the continental competition after defeating Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA) on the away goals rule last week.
KCCA won the second leg 3-1 but AS Kigali’s 2-0 win in the first leg which they got after their opponents failed to raise a quorum for the tie when nine players and a coach tested positive for coronavirus helped the team after striker Muhadjiri Hakizimana scored from the spot-kick.
