Singida threatened to equalize but the APR defenders, marshaled around Clement Niyigena and Yunusu Nshimiyimana, were resolute as they thwarted all their efforts and kept them at bay for the entire match.

Niyigena put the brakes on the rampaging Singida attack who had found their rhythm in the course of time.

After recess, Novic, who was looking to stabilize his midfield, brought on new signing Seidu Dauda for Mugisha as the Ghanaian brought the needed steel in front of the back four.

APR played with confidence and did the basic things, allowing Mbaoma to freely run into spaces behind the Singida back four.

The Rwandan champions brought on Richmond Lamptey and Alioune Souane for Niyibizi and Mbaoma respectively with 10 minutes to end the game.

The duo added a different dimension with Lamptey dictating the pace of the game. APR held on as the game ended 1-0 in their favor.

The Rwandan champions now lead Group C ahead of Ugandan powerhouse SC Villa and South Sudanese Al Merrikh who played out a goalless draw in another match.
