With the presidential and parliamentary elections just seven days away, the Green Party held a campaign rally in Bugesera and Kicukiro districts on July 8. During the rally, party leaders promised to build new roads and small factories to develop the areas.

Party chairman Frank Habineza, alongside 50 parliamentary hopefuls canvassing for votes in Kigali and Eastern Province, assured citizens that if elected, the party plans to improve infrastructure in areas where it is lacking.

"On our way to Juru Sector, Bugesera sector we noticed that the road is in poor condition. We ask you to vote for us to construct various roads nationwide, including this one. We will also ensure special lanes for bicycles, considering the uniqueness of this area where many residents use bicycles,” he stated.

He highlighted the party’s plans to initiate small factories in every sector to foster local development. For instance, in Bugesera, he suggested building a bicycle-manufacturing factory to provide residents with affordable bicycles.

The party urged residents to trust in it, citing their track record of delivering on promises. They referenced their previous election manifesto, claiming that over 70 percent of it was achieved. Notable achievements include the reduction of land tax, the introduction of school feeding programmes, and the increase in teachers’ salaries.

Other pledges include addressing youth unemployment, creating funds to support various sectors such as justice and agriculture, reducing VAT from 18 percent to 14 percent, eliminating land tax, establishing transit centers, and changing the agriculture and health sectors. Specifically, the party says it wants to increase medical personnel salaries and improve the public health insurance scheme, Mutuelle de Santé.
