AMAVUBI have gone a full year without scoring a goal but striker Jacques Tuyisenge believes they have the quality to end that drought during the CHAN tournament which runs from January 16 to February 7, 2021, in Cameroon
Amavubi has been training for the tournament since December and will play two friendly matches against the DRC on January 7-8 at Amahoro Stadium.
The national side was supposed to play another friendly against Namibia but the Namibian squad returned many positive cases of coronavirus.
Amavubi has played five matches this year but failed to find the back of the net and has conceded 3 goals in the Africa Cup of National qualifiers.
Strikers Jacques Tuyisenge and skipper Eric Bakame Ndayishimiye have urged the team to share the responsibility of scoring goals.
"We have good goal scorers in the team and I have faith that we will arrest our goal drought but it will require hard work and support of my teammates, I am confident we will improve.” Tuyisenge said
"We will be approaching it in a positive frame of mind with players looking to get on the ball and show their quality as well as ensuring we are well organized out of possession.”
The last time Amavubi scored was in October 2019 when Rwanda secured her ticket to the CHAN finals after edging out Ethiopia 2-1 in the Cecafa region qualifiers in October 2019.
Amavubi are in Group C alongside defending champions Morocco, Uganda and Togo.
After featuring in three past editions, Rwanda has only made it past the group stage once, when the country hosted the tournament in 2016.
Rwanda will be competing in CHAN for the fourth time overall and third in a row.
The event will be hosted by the cities of Yaounde, Douala, and Limbe and will also serve as a warm-up for Cameroon ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations.
