The inaugural edition of Rwanda Basketball Cup has reached the quarter-final round whose matches take place on Tuesday, July 9.
Established in 2024, the tournament aims to increase the number of competitions and teams playing in the country, fostering players’ development and raising the overall performance standard. It attracts the participation of teams from both the first and second divisions in both the men and women categories.
This year’s edition has featured 17 men’s teams divided into four groups (A, B, C, and D). Three of the groups were made up of four teams each, while the fourth group had five teams.
After playing the group stages, teams that finished at the top of each of the four groups advanced to the quarter-finals and will now face off in the knockouts.
They were drawn against four local powerhouses APR, REG, Espoir, and Patriots who have not played the group stages.

Azomco Basketball Club, who finished top of Pool D, will take on APR at Lycée de Kigali Gymnasium at 6:00 PM while Pool C winners United Generation (UGB) willl play against REG at Kepler Court at 6:00 PM.
Elsewhere, Kepler who won Group A will visit Patriots at Lycée de Kigali Gymnasium at 8:30 PM, while Tigers, who topped Group B, will face Espoir at Kepler Court at 8:30 PM.
The winners of the quarter-finals will advance to the semi-finals set to be played on August 7. the women Cup semi-finals will take place on August 28.
The winner of the Rwanda Cup in the women’s category will represent Rwanda in Zone 5 competitions while winners of men's division will earn the privilege to compete in the forthcoming East Africa Cup, an event which will be announced by FIBA in the coming days.
