Christians around the world are gearing up for Christmas celebrations—the greatest festival on the Christian calendar—which marks the birth of Jesus Christ.
This year’s Christmas celebrations, however, are overshadowed by the Covid-19 pandemic, which has forced the government to tighten measures following a spike in the number of cases.
With movements restricted, especially from 8 pm to 4 pm, it means that overnight prayers in places of worship, which have been the norm on December 24, won’t be taking place.
In addition to prayers, traditionally, Christmas Eve is celebrated with shopping for gifts, food and clothes as well as forms of merrymaking. This mood has been dampened by Covid-19.
The New Times' photojournalists, Craish Bahizi and Dan Nsengiyumva have captured some photos depicting how the city is gearing for Christmas.
