AFTER over ten days of intensive training, the national athletes’ team is finally relishing the chance of taking on the world’s best in this weekend’s IAAF tourney.

The contingent, which departs for Amman this afternoon (2pm) aboard Ethiopian Airways, includes eight athletes, the team coach and the vice president of the athletics federation. The athletes include five boys and three girls.

The boys are Jean Baptist Simukeka, Gervais Hakizimana, Eric Sebahire, Felix Nyirenganya and Sylvain Rukundo. Adeline Musanyeze, Jean d’arc Mukakigeli and Claudette Mukasakindi make up the girl’s team.

Although Rwanda’s top athlete Disi Dieudonne opted out of the championship, the team coach Innocent Rwabuhihi is optimistic of the athletes’ chances in Amman.

"These athletes have been participating in various international tournaments so we hope that this experience will be vital for them in Amman,” Rwabuhihi said.
