Why people listen to different music at different times

Music is one kind of recreational art that is blended with us and is a part and parcel of our life. From many kinds of music like pop, jazz, classical, folk, country songs or instrumental music, people choose music types according to their mood during their listening time.

Like historian and author Jane Swan, wondered ‘how is it that music can, without words, evoke our laughter, our fears, our highest aspirations?’ music can express our emotions succinctly.

Science in fact reveals that if music is listened to at certain times of the day, it can alter the psychological response of man’s life. Speaking to musical experts, they affirmed that music can change the state of existence and influence action, among other things.

For a bad day

If you have had a bad day, music can help you feel the emotions, embrace them and work through them, says Remmy Lubega, CEO of RG Consult that organizes the Kigali Jazz Junction.

"There are songs which were composed out of a sad experience, so when you listen to them, you experience that feeling which helps overcome some forms of transgression you might be passing through and help you move on,” he noted.

Mornings

According to Lubega, music can also prompt a person to take action before those who have not listened to it.

"Music alters your mood, especially during the early times of the day. It helps you to move on and take action,” he explained.

Research also echoes the views of Lubega, stipulating that if you had lined up a group of people who have not listened to music and asked them to volunteer hiking a mountain, you may get few responses. But if two members of the group have listened to heavy bass music, research reveals those two individuals will immediately volunteer.

Hence, researchers suggest that bass sounds are best at this early time of the day, as well as hip hop or heavy metal.

During exercise

During playtime or exercise also, upbeat music can keep your mood elevated, according to Lucky Nzeyimana, an entertainment journalist.

"Music can help your blood flow during exercise and upbeat music helps you to always feel energized and keeps encouraging you to exercise faster,” he commented.

Having a meal

Ever wondered why jazz music is specifically played and performed at hotels and posh restaurants?

Michel Owens, a music researcher, has also published that during mealtimes, jazz music can make any meal taste fantastic.

Sleeping

Nzeyimana also points out that music can facilitate your sleeping time because it helps to relax and wake you up in a fresh mood.

"It allows people to travel through all stages of sleep, refreshed and recharged for the next day’s adventures,” he noted.

In this case, researchers suggest classical music to be very effective.

Experts assert that there are many benefits to listening to music because it has the power to recall memories, change the way we think and influence the way we behave.
