Both teams came into Sunday’s game knowing it would determine who would be crown champions of Rwanda for the 2024 handball league season.
APR started strongly, leading the game 15-12 at halftime break. Ntabanganyimana’s side saw their hopes of winning the title fading when APR came into second half looking more aggressive offensively while also forming a defensive wall that proved too difficult for the likes of Samuel Mbesutunguwe to penetrate.
The army side eventually won the tie with a 30-25 victory to claim the title. They will now represent Rwanda at the 2024 African Handball Champions League.
Police have lost in the finals for the second time in a row. Gicumbi HC were also crowned champion of the 2023 handball league after beating the law enforcers in the finals.
