Chipper Cash, an innovative Fintech company which facilitates cross border payment and cash transfers has officially debuted in Rwanda recruiting Jovani Ntabgoba as the Country Manager.

Chipper Cash recently secured $30M funding with Amazon Chief Executive and founder Jeff Bezos among the investors.

Ntabgoba, a telecom engineer and data scientist by profession brings to Chipper experience and insight on the local landscape having held position such as General Manager of kLab and as an investment advisory to Japanese Tech Companies.

Chipper Cash’s entry to the local ecosystem the firm said is informed by the country’s quest to develop into an innovation and financial hub.

"The Rwandan government has set up sound business regulations, state of the art ICT infrastructures, academia and Rwanda Finance Limited among others. Chipper Cash is strengthening its presence in Rwanda so as to leverage these services and better serve both Rwanda and other African markets seamlessly,” explains Ntabgoba.

Users of the Chipper Cash can access the platform both via Android and Apple devices and can use their mobile money account to credit their Chipper wallet.

Once a wallet has funds, customers can then send money to other Chipper users including in other countries. Using Chipper allows those transfers to occur instantly and securely at the lowest rates.

The fin-tech currently has over 3.5 million users in the United Kingdom, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, and Rwanda.

Cross border payments have long been dominated by traditional money transfer players. Fin-tech has been said to have an advantage going forward buoyed by advantages of reduced cost of transactions, ease of use and client convenience.

Experts are further betting on Fin-Tech to drive financial inclusion on the continent which could give traditional banks a run for their money.

"With our recent round of funding and opening of the UK to Africa remittance corridor, more people will be able to use Chipper to send money to loved ones and grow their businesses at home and abroad,” said Alicia Levine, Chipper Cash Chief Operating Officer.
