Yesterday’s The New Times reported that some genocide remains are being used in Uganda for purposes of witchcraft.

This story, written by Edwin Musoni and Ignatius Ssuna, was about a damning report by Members of the Rwandan Parliament which revealed that the remains of victims of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi buried in Uganda could have been exhumed for use in witchcraft.

This news is disheartening because it reveals that there are many people who don’t value the remains of those who perished during the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.

One of the ways to fight the genocide ideology is giving the deceased a decent burial and protection to their final place of rest. This will show the world that these people had value in their society.

The fact that some Ugandans have chosen to use Rwanda genocide remains in their traditional rites is proof that many countries up to now don’t take the 1994 genocide seriously.

Its everyone’s responsibility to take care of genocide remains especially now that we are under the same umbrella of the East African Community.
