“A little bit sad” - Amavubi coach reacts to AFCON qualifiers draw

Amavubi head coach, Torsten Spittler, has expressed mixed feelings following the draw for the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, which placed Rwanda in the same group as Nigeria and Benin.

In an interview with the Rwanda Football Federation (Ferwafa), Spittler said he was "a little bit sad that we have two teams in the group, Nigeria and Benin, with whom are also playing in the same group in the World Cup qualifiers, but it is what it is.”

Group D in which Rwanda is, also has Libya in it, as the fourth team.

The battle for AFCON qualification is set to begin this September.

Spittler's Amavubi will be vying for a spot in the finals, scheduled to take place in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
