Another summer weekend is here, and all roads lead to the inaugural Hip-Hop Festival set to kick off in Kigali this Friday, July 5, at Institut Français. This special occasion celebrates hip-hop culture with concerts, breakdancing, BMX, graffiti, open mic, streetwear, exhibitions, documentary screenings, deejaying, and pop-up shops.

Opening day offers free entry, and the festival will close on Saturday, June 6, with a concert featuring Rwandan rap front runners like Ish Kevin, Bulldogg, B-Threy, Romeo Rapstar, Logan Joe, Slum Drip, and Dr. Nganji, among others. Entry to the concert will be Rwf10,000.

Kigalians have plenty of other options this weekend. The East African Wedding Show returns for its third edition, promising to be hotter and bigger than ever. The event, to be held at Atelier Du Vin on Saturday, July 6, and Sunday, July 7, features various vendors and service providers from the wedding industry.

Attendees can look forward to a wide array of vendors, including wedding planners, photographers, florists, caterers, bakers, dressmakers, DJs, and live bands. The FGF team brings the vibes with a playlist curated by Nicole (NIK’ PICKS), followed by live DJ sets by Isaac Rugamba and K'Ru. Entry at the door is Rwf10,000.

The "Shapes ‘n Shadows" exhibition by Rukundo Jean Baptiste begins this Friday, July 5, at 5 PM at L’espace (11 KG 29 Ave). This exhibition seeks to challenge harmful stereotypes and encourage the embrace of individuality. Rukundo, a Rwandan expressionist painter and sculptor, delves into the complexities of identity, influenced by gender, sexuality, culture, and personal experiences. Entry is free, and the exhibition will run until Friday, July 12.

For movie moviegoers, Canal Olympia is offering an exciting lineup of blockbusters starting this Friday. The schedule includes Garfield the Movie, Bad Boys: Ride or Die, A Quiet Place: Day One, Inside Out 2, and Kalki 2898 AD, with screenings starting at 11 PM on weekends. Entry prices range from Rwf3,000 to Rwf6,000.

Additionally, enjoy a delightful Sunday brunch at Century Park on July 7.
