Raised in a Christian family, church became second home for James Rubibi. The more he attended the church service, the more he realised he had a singing talent, and to express it he joined the church choir.
At a later age, he thought about pursuing music studies to build on his career. It is in that regard; he attended an arts school out of the country.
"I was not satisfied with singing at church, I wanted more musical skills and that is how I started taking some piano classes”, he notes.
Nicknamed Jazy James, he graduated with flying colors and returned to Rwanda where he resumed his music, this time with his friends as part of Elohim singers band.
For over five years, the band excited people by performing in bars, parties, weddings, and other events.
At the start of this year, however, the 26-year old decided he wanted to pursue a solo music career and released his first two singles, including "Iby’urukundo”, which attracted a lot of fans for music due to the way it was created. . Its emotional appeals and catchy lyrics make it stand out.
In the song, the singer urges someone who does not know much about love to test it.
"I got a lot of motivational feedback from this song, giving me more courage to continue pursuing music and I hope that the best is to come,” he comments.
He also mentions that he chose to launch his music with the Afro-zouk genre because of its fame in Africa. He is also focusing on love because "it is the basic prerequisite for any human being.”
"Love is crucial for everyone, the old and young, rich and poor, everyone. It is also the root of all kindness, hence we need to sing about it more”, he explains.
The guitar player aims at helping upcoming artistes reaching their potential, upon achieving his long-term targets.
