EASTERN PROVINCE

KAYONZA — Send A Cow Rwanda (SACR) has donated 18 cows to members of Twiyubake Association.

A ceremony to officially hand over the cows to 18 members of Twiyubake Association, residents of Mukarange Sector in Kayonza District, Eastern Province was held last week.

Send A Cow is a Non Governmental Organisation which supports the poor and vulnerable farmers. Farmers are assisted after the organization undertakes an assessment of their living standards through a base line survey.

After the study the organization  responds to the needs of those falling below agreed poverty criteria.

Targeted groups include  orphan-headed households, widows, people infected with HIV/AIDS and the disabled.

While handing over the cows Munyankiko Froduard, Send A Cow Director in Rwanda assured the organisation’s continued support for the poor people, especially those who have formed associations.

He urged the members of the association to take the necessary care for the cows for them to benefit in a more appropriate way.

One of the beneficiaries Tereza Mukamunyana said the cow given to her would help her in several ways: "I used to buy milk, but now I have  hope that within days I will be milking my cow and getting manure to boost the productivity in my farm”.

The beneficiaries were also trained on the techniques of animal husbandry.
