AS Kigali attacking midfielder Felix Ndekwe will miss the first leg of the Confederation Cup tie against Orapa United of Botswana on Sunday, November 29.
AS Kigali departed for Gaborone, the capital city of Botswana on Monday, November 23.
Francis Gasana, the club’s Secretary General said the midfielder is nursing a knee injury, which rules him out for a month.
"Ndekwe is out of the first leg after a knee injury he sustained during a recent training session,” Gasana said adding that coach Eric Nshimiyimana is likely to call on Kwizera Pierrot or Muhadjili Hakizimana to replace him.
The City of Kigali-sponsored side has so far played five warm up matches winning three and drawing two against APR, Police and AS Arta Solar 7 of Djibouti.
Winners of the annual Peace Cup represent Rwanda in the Confederations Cup, however the tournament was not held this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Nyamirambo-based side were selected to represent Rwanda by the National Football Federation Executive committee because they were the winners of the 2019 Peace cup edition.
AS Kigali bowed out of the 2018/19 Confederation Cup in the first round, at the hands of Ugandan outfit Proline, after eliminating Tanzania’s KMC in the preliminary round.
After signing some of the biggest names in local football such as defender Emery Bayisenge and forwards Muhadjiri Hakizimana and Abeddy Biramahire, AS Kigali will also be looking to challenge for the Rwanda Premier League next season.
