Aimed at sensitizing people to Breast Cancer, the Kigali Car Free Day, was attended by President Paul Kagame and First Lady, who were joined by Uganda's General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, on Sunday, October 16.
The Sunday's event serves to continue Breast Cancer Awareness Month (The Pink Month) which aims to educate people about the disease, including early screening as well as signs and symptoms associated with it.
Attended by thousands of Kigali residents, from jogging to cycling, skating and walking, the public sports take place twice a month. During the event, the Ministry of Health underscores the importance of early detection to stem rising breast cancer cases. Addressing the participants, as Rwanda joined the rest of the world to mark breast cancer awareness month, Health Minister Dr Daniel Ngamije revealed that the Ministry is facing a challenge of delayed breast cancer care for patients, leading to lower chances of survival but also higher costs of treatment.
The New Times' Photographers; Olivier Mugwiza and Craish Bahizi, captured different pictures to highlight the enrolling of the event from BK Arena to Kimihurura where participants met medics for mass screening and sports exercises.
