30 people tested positive for Covid-19 in Muhanga Prison located in Muhanga District, on Saturday, November 14.
On Friday, the same prison had reported 36 Covid-19 cases.
So far, prisons are the country’s main Covid-19 hotspot, after infections have been already reported from Nsinda, Nyarugenge and Muhanga prisons among others.
However, Rwanda Correctional Facility recently said that all positive cases registered in prisons were those of new inmates transferred to the prison from detentions.
The institution also noted that it has reserved a special isolation facility at every prison countrywide where new inmates are isolated for a period of between 14 and 21 days and get tested before they are given green light to join other inmates.
Meanwhile, Saturday saw Kigali and Nyanza District confirming a single Covid-19 infection each.
The latest update was obtained from 3,128 Covid-19 sample tests taken in the last 24 hours.
Rwanda currently has 5,394 total Covid-19 confirmed cases of whom 4, 994 have already recovered, and has recorded 42 Covid-19 fatalities in total.
The country has so far carried out 585,540 Covid-19 tests.
