Tanzania’s President Dr. John Magufuli was Thursday, November 5, sworn in for a second term following his victory in last week's election where he won 84% of the vote.
Magufuli, a former minister of public works, who was first elected as President in 2015, will serve another five-year term expected to end in 2025.
More than 12 countries including Rwanda as well as delegates from the African Union and the Southern African Development Community were represented at the ceremony held at Dodoma’s Jamhuri Stadium, in the capital, Dodoma.
Magufuli won 84 per cent of the vote, in a poll where his main rival, Tundu Lissu, got 13 per cent of the vote.
Tanzania's election commission has denied allegations by the opposition that the election was rigged.
Magufuli, a father of five, is a devout Catholic who has, among others, pledged to continue the fight against corruption and wasteful spending of public money.
