A police woman who has been serving a five month suspension has been arrested after a forged traffic stamp and provisional driving permits were discovered at her home in Ruhengeri town.

Pauline Munganyinka, was arrested after she reportedly sent Emmanuel Nsengiyumva, 25, to sell forged provisional permits which had the falsified stamp to people who wanted to take driving exams held last month.

According to Police sources, Munganynka had been suspended for misconduct. She first refused to speak to journalists but later denied any wrong doing upon changing her mind. She claimed that the documents were found in the young man’s bedroom and she could thus not be held accountable.

Nsengiyumva accused the police woman, whom he has been working for, that she gave him Rwf 8,000 from proceeds he received from selling the fake documents.

Information of the fake documents was leaked to the office of Ombudsman who involved the police and local authorities to issue  a search warrant.

The documents were then discovered in the suspects house. The Deputy Ombudsman in charge of prevention of injustice, corruption and other related offences, Immaculate Mukarurangwa , said that coordination of facts and sharing of information with the concerned organs was vital in fighting corruption.

According to the penal code act, article 198, falsification of documents carries a five year prison sentence.
