Zambia coach Herve Renard has named his final 23-man squad which will be facing Egypt in the 2010 World Cup qualifications on March 29 in Cairo.
According to filgoal.com, Renard’s squad will be led by Arminia Bielefeld striker Christopher Katongo, who scored against Egypt in the 1-1 draw during the 2008 African Cup of Nations.
Chris’ brother Felix, who plays for Stade Rennes in the French second division, was also included in the squad alongside Chateauroux striker Jacob Mulenga.
Renard is also counting on six players, who were part of the Zambian squad that finished third in the African Nations Championship for domestic based players.
Given Singuluma will be a player to watch, after the striker notched five goals to finish top scorer of the competition which was recently held in Ivory Coast but his eligibility is in doubt after he was booked twice.
Also from the CHAN squad are Nyambe Mulenga, Dennis Banda, William Njobvu, Jonas Sakuwaha and veteran defender Elijah Tana, who is bound for an Angolan club.
However, Renard left out left out Mamelodi Sundowns striker Collins Mbesuma and Thanda Royal Zulu winger Clifford Mulenga from the squad for a tough World Cup qualifier in Cairo against Egypt.
There is also no room for Rodger Kola, who recently joined South Africa’s Golden Arrows and China-based striker James Chamanga. Both Kola and Chamanga have been regulars on the Frenchman’s list since he took over the Chipolopolo job last year.
The Chipolopolo or Copper Bullets will begin training in South Africa tomorrow before they set out to Egypt on Wednesday.
The Chipolopolo are drawn in the qualifications’ final stage Group C alongside Egypt, Algeria and Rwanda.
