SHARKS hope to break into the top three this year after strengthening their side in the off-season. The Nyamirambo based club has beefed up its squad with ten new signings and hopes to reap big from the investment.

In an interview with Times Sport, club president Janvier Ugeziwe yesterday said that the club is finally getting where it wants to be ahead of this year’s Rugby League.

"We believe that with the new players and regular training sessions, we shall have a genuine go at this year’s league,” he reckoned.

"The guys are in good shape and working out smart. The mood in the team is also encouraging. With our good depth, we shall surely give Buffaloes and Gorillas a good run for their money,” he added.

Sharks, who have now resorted to daily training sessions at Rugunga rugby grounds, open their league campaign next Saturday with an away tie against last year’s league runners-up Kaduha Tigers.

Sharks new signings; Issa Gatera, Juvénal Gatabazi, Jean Léonard Twizeyimana, Selman Nkurunziza, Victor Umuhire, Said Kayiranga, Sixmondi Nyirimpeta, Idi Bigirabagabo, Jean Paul Kwizera and Innocent Ahorukomeye.

Last year, Sharks finished fourth with Remera Buffaloes, Kaduha Tigers and Gorillas all finishing above them. The club’s best appearance in the league came two years ago when they finished third.

Meanwhile, the number of clubs in the league has shot up to nine after ISAE’s late entry.  The institute confirmed its involvement Thursday evening.
