The renovated ultra-modern Amahoro Stadium, which has been under major facelift since mid-2022, will be officially inaugurated on July 1 instead of July 4 as initially announced, the Ministry of Sports (MINISPORTS) has said.
The ministry had earlier said that the inauguration would coincide with the celebration of the 30th Liberation Day but Zephanie Niyonkuru, the Permanent Secretary of MINISPORTS, told Times Sport that, "We decided to separate the two events to avoid having them on the same day.”
"The 30th Liberation anniversary will be celebrated on July 4, and the stadium inauguration will take place on July 1," Niyonkuru said.

Times Sport understands that the event will feature a friendly match between Rwanda’s football powerhouses Police FC and APR FC on Monday, July 1, the date during which Rwanda celebrates Independence Day.
This will be the second match held at stadium, following the friendly derby between APR FC and Rayon Sports on June 15. The match served to test the facilities, crowd control, and other logistical aspects after the stadium received approval from FIFA to host international football events.
