Local giants APR football club have started group training after 204 days out of action due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The army side are gearing up for the 2020/21 Caf Champions League, which gets underway next month.
The Rwanda Premier League’s reigning champions held their first training session on Sunday at Shyorongo artificial turf with all the players, including new signing Jacques Tuyisenge.
APR have about 50 days for preparations before playing their first competitive match since March when the 2019/20 league season was suspended before it was declared over, prematurely, in May.
The Caf Champions League, Africa’s premier club competition, starts on the weekend of November 20-22. APR have set an ambitious target of reaching the group stage – a feat that no other Rwandan club have ever attained.
The club is using Dian Fossey Hotel, based in Rulindo District, as their residential camp.
Meanwhile, head coach Adil Erradi has said that the club will play two friendly matches before starting their champions league campaign.
