Newly elected SC Kiyovu President, Juvenal Mvukiyehe, has promised swift and deep changes at the club as the Green Baggies look to challenge for the first league title in 28 years next season.
SC Kiyovu, who finished in fifth place last season, have not been crowned Rwandan champions since 1993 – the club’s last major silverware.
Mvukiyehe was unanimously elected as SC Kiyovu President for a three-year term last Sunday.
While accepting his new responsibilities at the handover ceremony on Thursday, at Galaxy Hotel in Kigali, Mvukiyehe acknowledged that the club faces a number of challenges ranging from poor management to insufficient financial power, which, in turn, leads to inadequate incentives to motivate players and the coaching staff.
"As the new management committee, we have to first build the club in terms of performance both off and on the pitch but also to build confidence among the fans,” noted Mvukiyehe.
He added: "Kiyovu is a big club, so we must act and perform like one. The work ahead is not easy, but we are committed. We will return to our glory days.”
It is reported that Mvukiyehe will contribute Rwf50 million to the club’s budget for the upcoming 2020/21 season.
Amavubi legend Olivier Karekezi will be in charge as SC Kiyovu head coach following his appointment in June, and he will be assisted by François Kalisa. Ahmed Kagabo is the physical trainer, while Aime Ndanda Ndayizeye will be the goalkeeping coach.
Kiyovu, who were one of the most respected football clubs in the pre-1994 era where they clinched four league titles between 1983 and 1993, have signed some of the biggest names in domestic football – led by goalie Yves Kimenyi and Nigerian striker Samson Babua.
Meanwhile, the local football governing body (Ferwafa) is yet to announce when the new season will get underway. The start was initially scheduled for Friday, October 30, but Ferwafa has since scrapped the plan.
