UAP Insurance has extended relief donations of foodstuff to members of the Rwanda Football Federation (Ferwafa) across all the league divisions as they grapple with effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The donation, which was delivered to Ferwafa headquarters in Remera on Friday, is worth Rwf25 million and will benefit all the 63 members of the federation.
The livelihood of players, coaches and support staff in domestic football has been disrupted following the shutdown of sports activities after the first Covid-19 case was confirmed in March. The league was suspended on March 14 before the season ended prematurely in May.
And, as a result, the majority of the clubs have since opted to suspend salaries for players, technical teams and all non-playing staff to mitigate the financial impact of the pandemic.
"We are delighted to support the federation and its members in these challenging times,” said Annie Nibishaka, the Managing Director of UAP Insurance Rwanda, at the event to hand over the relief donation to Ferwafa.
UAE Rwanda, through its parent company UAE Old Mutual Group, is the latest organisation to deliver help to the neediest in the football community.
"Our journey with Ferwafa started a few years ago when we embarked on a partnership deal together as Insurer and Insured,” added Nibishaka.
Courtesy of the UAP support, it is expected that each beneficiary will receive at least 10kgs of rice, 10kgs of maize flour and 10 liters of cooking oil.
UAP Insurance Rwanda is a subsidiary of UAP Old Mutual Group, member of Old Mutual Limited, which is an integrated financial service provider that owns businesses in the banking, insurance, and investment sectors.
