Seven domestic companies have already shown interest in the acquisition of the new product quality mark according to the Rwandan Bureau of Standards (RBS).
They include Socar Kanunu Coffee, Rwanda Coffee International Market, Nyabisindu that will certify its different products and Duhamic which seeks to certify only biscuits. Others are Organic Solutions Secondary and Diva Nutritional Products which have also asked to be licensed.
The product quality mark that was launched a few months ago seeks to give the assurance to customers that the product is in conformity with the requirements of relevant standards and that they are produced under controlled sanitary conditions.
Eugenia Niwenkunda RBS’ official in charge of certification said, "The product quality mark helps Rwandan products to access both local and international market. This helps them gain assurance and confidence from the consumers,” said.
The seven companies come to join Sulfo industries and BRALIRWA which have already attained this mark for one of their products including Nil mineral water and Mutzig beer respectively.
An application fee of Rwf 100,000 is required for the acquisition of the certificate where as the license fee depends on the total output of different companies and so is the license fee.
