Once upon a time in a small village called Hat-Ville, lived a little boy called Sam. His father was a hat maker. In this village everyone got a beautiful new hat on their 10th birthday.
Each hat was unique and everyone got one that matched what they liked to do. By looking at your hat one would immediately know which kind of person you were.
A week before Sam’s birthday, he couldn’t wait for the day he got his own hat. He knew that he would get a beautiful hat but he wondered what the hat would look like.
Many people knew Sam was about to turn 10 years so, they made for him their hats.
Sam was really confused because everyone gave him a nice hat but none looked great on him. He looked around and he just couldn’t find a hat that fits him.
Sam was so sad so he went crying to his father.
"Daddy I can’t find a hat that is good enough for me,” Sam cried.
"Sam it is not your birthday yet. Wait and you will get your own hat soon,” his father said.
"You mean you will make a perfect one just for me?” Sam asked happily.
"Yes, you just have to wait a while longer, then you will see,” his father said.
So, he waited for his turn to get a hat. On his birthday, he got a little purple hat that matched his favourite sweater.
The hat was exactly what he imagined and it fit him perfectly. Sam was so happy and excited and he decided that he would no longer try to fit into other people’s hats because he now had his own little hat.
Just like Sam, we sometimes try to act and be like other people- it is like trying to fit into their hats.
We are all different and we are all good at different things. Some children can do some things better than us and we also are better than them doing different things.
Being different is okay because not all hats will fit us, except that one hat that perfectly fits. Discover what you are good at and keep doing it.
