On Sunday, September 6, Rwanda announced the death of a 76-year-old woman who succumbed to Covid-19 in Kigali.

The tragedy raised the country's Covid-19 death toll to 19 people.

On the same day, 36 new Covid-19 recoveries were reported and 25 positive cases.

The results obtained from 3,418 sample tests conducted in the last 24 hours therefore raised the tally of recoveries to 2,235 against 2,120 Covid-19 cases recorded since mid-March.

According to the Ministry of Health, of the new cases, 16 were detected in Kigali's high-risk groups.

For the last successive couple of weeks, Kigali has been the leading hotspot of Covid-19 country-wide, with workers in Nyarugenge and Nyabugogo markets and their contacts being among high-risk groups.

Nyarugenge was opened on Thursday after a two-week ban, and workers in it were urged to continue adhering to Covid-19 preventive measures. However, Nyabugogo market is still closed.

Meanwhile, Rusizi and Rubavu districts also confirmed four and three new cases respectively.

On the same day, a single Covid-19 case was detected in Rwamagana and Kirehe districts respectively.

Concerning the number of Covid-19 tests conducted, the country has carried out a tally of 439,893 tests since outbreak of the pandemic.
