Rwandair flights will carry 30 people for the Kigali-Gisenyi route in a tri-weekly schedule at a cost of $120.

RUBAVU- Rwandair Executive Chairman, Ambassador Gerald Zirimwabagabo has said travelers on the new Gisenyi route will only take 30 minutes to reach their destination.

Zirimwabagabo was speaking at the launch of Rwandair flights to Gisenyi on Sunday. The event attracted residents from the neighboring town of Goma, who traveled to witness the launch.

Zirimwabagabo said that Rwandair will in addition to the existing domestic flights from Kigali to Kamembe, launch other flights connecting other districts to the capital.

"We are today launching Kigali-Gisenyi tri-weekly flights. Gisenyi being a business center and one of the towns that attract tourism in Rwanda, we hope the flights will contribute a lot, not only to the development of Rubavu but also provide a swift transport facility to tourists visiting the areas”, said Zirimwabagabo.

Zirimwabagabo also added that the company has future plans of launching a Musanze – Kigali flight. He said that such increased flights will provide easy and quick transport of people and goods.

Rwandair flights will carry 30 people for the Kigali-Gisenyi route in a tri-weekly schedule. A return ticket for this flight will cost $120.

The Director of Gisenyi airstrip, Robert Mugabe said that Gisenyi airstrip has now acquired most of the necessary requirements that will facilitate the flights.

He added that there is still a rehabilitation process that is still going on. This will raise the standards of the airstrip.

Mugabe also said that the airstrip administration would expand the landing area from the current 1km to at least 1.5kms which he said might facilitate the landing of bigger planes.

The Mayor of Goma, Roge Rachidy Tumbula who headed the Goma delegation said that flights are expected to help businessmen from Goma.

He said they would provide swift transport facilities to tourists visiting Goma through Kigali.
