Men (Final)
APR 3-0 KVC
Women (Final)
APR 3-0 RRA

Reigning champions APR humbled archrivals Kigali Volleyball Club with a 3-0 straight set victory to claim the opening phase of the 2009 National Volleyball League last Saturday.

The army side wasted no time as they claimed the first set 25-23. KVC battled hard in the second set forcing APR into a tie break but the champions still came through with a 28-26 victory before winding up play with a 25-20 victory in the third and final set.

It was the best possible start for APR coach Jean Luc Ndayikengurukiye who is targeting a quadruple of titles this year.

The ex-APR and national team skipper enjoyed a successful debut in the coaching ranks last year after guiding APR to three titles; national league, Coupe du Rwanda and Rutsindura Memorial.

APR’s female counterparts also had a bright start to their league campaign after silencing Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) in the final.

APR, who had dislodged defending champions National University of Rwanda (UNR) 3-0 in the semi-final defeated RRA in straight sets.
