Kenya Airways on Tuesday, September 1, announced a 50 percent ticket price waiver for the country’s health workers intending to travel.
The airline said that the move is to celebrate the country’s medical heroes with an exclusive offer.
In a statement, the airline said that the month-long campaign kicked off on September 1.
"The healthcare workers can book tickets by Sep 30, 2020 to over 20 destinations” reads part of the statement.
However, for one to be eligible, you must be a front-line health worker with a Health Worker ID which must be shown at the time of purchase and at check-in.
Additionally, "Cancellations or refunds before departure permitted free of charge, not permitted after departure," the airline said.
For example a round trip price from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to Kigali International Airport costs $320 on economy class. This means that a health worker will be required to pay $160.
According to various local media reports, frontline health workers have been among the 577 to die from coronavirus in Kenya since the first case was detected in March.
For instance, by July, Kenya had more than 250 health workers infected by coronavirus, while a total of four had succumbed to the disease.
The development comes after the airline’s net loss for the half year widened by 67.3 percent to Sh14.33 billion on account of Covid-19 disruptions that led to the grounding of flights.
Kenya Airways said last week that the passenger numbers dropped by 55.5 percent, hence hurting revenues.
