Rwanda’s music star Benjamin Mugisha, commonly known as The Ben, on Thursday signed a Rwf 42 million deal with Tecno Mobile Rwanda to become the mobile phone solutions company’s brand ambassador.
The contract, which has an undisclosed expiry date, will see the R&B singer advertise and promote Tecno’s current Camon15 series on his social media to push it to reach customers across the country.
Upon signing the deal, The Ben said he is happy to work and join Tecno Mobile family and looks forward to working well with the company which he believes won’t regret working with a Rwandan artist of his caliber.
"This means something big to Rwandan music. We have been doing good music for our people for a long time and I think this is high time to reap some fruits from it. So for Tecno, doing business with musicians should be giving us, artists, a motivation to do better in music,” the singer added.
Theodore Muyango, Tecno Mobile Rwanda supervisor said Tecno has chosen to work with celebrities and is confident the company can boost its sales through their marketing influence.
"We are working with celebrities to help us spread the message about our phones reach our customers and we see The Ben being our brand ambassador would help our products reach many people,” he said.
"We hope The Ben will help us reach a bigger number of customers because he has so many followers on social media. He will be telling his followers about Tecno’s products, especially Camon15, which we hope will boost our clientele traffic,” he said.
The Ben becomes the latest celebrity to join Tecno family alongside the likes of footballer Yves Kimenyi, Miss Rwanda 2019 finalist Claudine Uwase Muyango, Socialite Shadia Mbabazi ‘Shaddyboo’ and TV personality Luckman Nzeyimana.
According to the contract, The Ben is to endorse Tecno’s products with an emphasis on Camon15 series, but with a clause of extending the influence to other models.
At the same time, he will use his soon-to-be-released song ‘Kola’ in Tecno’s as part of the singer’s joint campaign with Tecno dubbed #KolaNaCamon15.
Through the campaign, a number of the singer and Tecno fans join a video challenge of the song to stand a chance to win a number of Tecno prizes.
The challenge is open to the general public, individuals or groups.
To join the campaign, an individual or a group of people can record and post a short video (not more than 30 seconds) doing a routine dance to a Kola song and share the video Tik Tok, Instagram or Facebook.
Note that you use the #KolaNaCamon15 hashtag and tag @TecnoMobileRW and @TheBen3 before sharing the video.
The top 10 best dance video challenges stand a chance to win big prizes from Tecno, including cash, CAmon15series smartphones and much more.
Entries open from August 22 to September 12 where 30 best video challenges will then be contested for a selection in the top 10 slated to be announced on September 29.
The overall winner of the video challenge [must be a group] will walk away with a cash prize of Rwf 500,000rwf while the first runner-up [must be an individual] will be rewarded a Tecno Camon15 Premier.
The second runner-up and the fourth will get Tecno Camon15 phones while the fifth and sixth contestant will get Camon15Air. The remaining finalists will be given different Tecno-branded gifts.
