Yego Innovision Ltd, the company behind YEGOMOTO and YEGOCABS, awarded their first Taxi-Moto Driver who joined YEGOMOTO on 4th September 2017 and has stayed with the company since.
The ceremony was held on Saturday, August 15, at IPRC, Kicukiro District and was attended by Taxi-Moto Drivers, Rwanda National Police and Rwanda Utility and Regulatory Authority (RURA) representatives with strict adherence to Covid-19 precautionary measures.
The beneficiary, Gerard Ntakirutimana, was given a brand new TVS Motorcycle, in addition YEGO pledged to pay the school fees for Gerard’s two sons for their entire Primary studies.
Ntakirutimana registered with YEGOMOTO in 2017, when the use of Meters by Taxi-Motos was a brand new idea that had been conceptualized by Yego Innovision Limited as a way of digitizing and organising the Taxi-Moto industry.
At the awarding ceremony, the CEO of Yego Innovision, Karanvir Singh said that the ultimate goal of Yego Innovision is to change the lives of those who work with YEGO for the better.
"Today's occasion is a clear signal that we value our Driver Partners, our goal is not only to make money, but to ensure that the lives of those who work with us change for the better," he said.
He also urged drivers to treat Passengers with respect and due care, and to make each ride a memorable experience. This he said would ensure that the Drivers feel a sense of pride for the essential work they do in moving people from one place to another.
Speaking to the press, Ntakirutimana noted that joining YEGOMOTO was the best decision he had ever made.
He said: "In 2017, our profession was facing several challenges such as theft of our motorbikes, it would take long time to find a clients and the existence of many unlicensed motorcyclists. After hearing of YEGOMOTO and its advantages, I immediately went to YEGO’s office to register for their digital Meter system."
"As a result of using the Meter, I get clients faster because of the YEGOMOTO App which connects us with passengers. Also, some people once tried to steal my Motorcycle but the authorities managed to retrieve the Motorcycle because of the GPS fixed in it, all thanks to Yego Innovision Ltd.," he added.
Other benefits of using the digital system, he said, include; real-time speed tracking to help prevent accidents, regulated taxi fares that prevent wastage time spent bargaining, Cashless payments and many others.
Also, YEGOMOTO builds a credit-score for their Drivers by recording their income from every Trip, and a big data platform to collect reliable statistics of the Motorcycle Taxi transport industry.
Gerard Ntakirutimana was delighted as from a Taxi-Moto Driver with one Motorcycle in 2017, he is now the proud owner of three Motorcycles. He rides one himself and intends to rent out the two others; this officially makes him a "Boss” or Entrepreneur.
In bid to digitise the transport sector and avoid the further spread of Covid-19 in the country, Rwanda has made it mandatory for all taxi-moto drivers to have meters effective Saturday, August 15.
