Tell us about yourself

My name is Jojea Kwizera. I was born on January 1, 1999 in Bukavu. I’m a winger and an attacking midfielder. I've been playing football since the day I could remember. I am a left footed player with good speed and dribbling.

How did your career start?

My professional career started in January 2022 when I got selected 15th overall in the Major League Soccer (MLS) super draft. I also played for Utah State University and Utah Valley Wolverines in my college career.

What teams have you played for professionally?

I have played for two teams in my professional football career: CF Montreal in the MLS and Rhode Island FC in the USL which is my current club.

How was the feeling when you were invitated to play for Amavubi?

When I was first selected to represent Rwanda, I was really excited because it’s also a big honor to represent your country and it's every footballer's dream to play international football.

How was your first day in Amavubi camp?

My first day in the camp was really simple. I didn’t have to do much because I arrived the day before we played Benin, so it was really relaxed without a lot going on because we were focused on the game against Benin.

What the feeling like scoring your first international goal in Rwandan colors?

It was really special because it was on my first international start and in a historic stadium. It will always be something I’ll never forget.

What was your first impression about the group?

My first impression was that we had a really good young team with a lot of potential who possessed really great football qualities.

Are you confident Amavubi can make it to the 2026 World Cup?

I honestly do believe so. If we continue to perform like we have been performing lately, we definitely have a chance to qualify. It won’t be easy but I believe we can fight for it and we can qualify.

Which other positions can you play?

I can also operate as a wingback or as a forward.

What should Rwandans expect from Jojea Kwizera?

I think the fans can expect excitement from me and, hopefully, I can score more goals for the country.
