On June 8, LOLC Unguka Finance hosted its annual award ceremony and staff dinner dance, celebrating a significant milestone in the company’s journey towards excellence.
The event was attended by several guests, including Rohan Kumara, the Regional Director for Africa at LOLC Holding PLC; Yves Sangano, Chairman of LOLC Unguka Finance; former Board Chairperson Ngagi Kabarega; Director Gisanabagabo Sebuhuzu; CEO Justin Kagishiro; and Deputy CEO Roshan Gunawardana, among others.
The event was a platform to honour outstanding individuals who contributed to the organisation's success in 2023 and to celebrate the rebranding of the former Unguka Bank with the entire staff.

In his opening remarks, Deputy CEO Roshan Gunawardana expressed gratitude towards the management for recognising employee performances and orchestrating an evening that allowed staff members to network and celebrate together. He emphasised the importance of such events in fostering a sense of solidarity and motivation among the team.
Chairman Yves Sangano highlighted that their employees are their greatest asset, and their dedication and hard work are fundamental to the institution’s success as a leading MFI in Rwanda. "It boosts morale and reinforces a culture of continuous improvement and achievement,” Sangano said.
Chief guest Rohana Kumara underscored the significance of such recognition, adding that events like this highlight the importance of celebrating excellence within an organisation. He also mentioned Rwanda&039;s potential in the region and LOLC Unguka's role as a leading microfinance institution (MFI) in the country. Rohana expressed his commitment to working closely with LOLC Unguka and providing support at the group level to help the organisation thrive in the Rwandan market and reach new heights in a shorter period.

The awards presented during the ceremony recognised excellence across various categories. Esperance Nyirandahiriwe, Angelique Umutesi, and Elly Silva Sebagabo were commended for their personal achievements and contributions to the bank's overall performance. Nyarugenge and KCM branches won awards as Best CASA Branch and Best Asset Branch for the 2023 financial year, respectively. Rubavu, Kimironko, and Kabuga branches were honoured as the best branches in their respective categories for overall performance in 2023.
Justin Ngirabakunzi, the branch manager of LOLC Unguka Finance in Rubavu, expressed his enthusiasm after receiving an award. He reflected on how well-organised and memorable the event was. "We appreciate the management for recognising our performances and arranging this opportunity to enjoy and network with fellow bank employees. It was a valuable experience to spend time with senior management and our directors," he said.
Emerthe Mukarwego, the Remera branch manager, said, "We are now motivated and look forward to similar events in the future. We will work hard to be awarded on the stage next year."
In his closing remarks, CEO Justin Kagishiro underlined the importance of recognising employees’ valuable contributions and identifying future leaders as priority goals. "The evening was fantastic, and witnessing the team’s enthusiasm and excitement for the future is truly amazing,” he said.
The event concluded with a sense of optimism and solidarity as staff members and guests reflected on past achievements and looked forward to future milestones.
